A CONTRIBUTION FROM INDIA TO AFRICA
EYE SURGICAL CAMPS IN BURUNDI AND KENYA
Burundi in Central Africa is a country with poor medical infrastructure but with a large elderly population requiring cataract surgeries and an equally large number of children suffering from myopia/ hypermetropia thus needing spectacles.
Kenya is slightly better off in terms of facilities but the need for mass low cost cataract surgeries is there.
HHI has co-ordinated two eye camps at Bujumbura in Burundi and Nairobi in Kenya to provide facilities for cataract surgeries by a team of doctors and opthalmologists from India.
The efforts were lauded by one and all including the First Lady of Burundi. On Burundi National Television the Indian team spoke of the gratitude that the patients had shown after their surgeries.
It was truly a moving experience and HHI plans to organize such activities in future also.
